Category:Les MillsJOHANNESBURG - The U.S. Embassy in South Africa has warned that some of the extremist elements behind the El Paso, Texas massacre “wielded legally acquired firearms and have claimed that their actions were done on behalf of the ‘Tide of Truth Brigade’ and the ‘International Freedom Corps.’”
It's not clear who those groups are.
Here is the full statement from the U.S. Embassy:
"The U.S. Embassy in South Africa condemns the mass shooting in El Paso, Texas on Saturday and all acts of violence. The El Paso shooting was carried out by a perpetrator armed with an AK-47-style rifle, and a manifesto posted online before the attack stated that the crime was committed ‘in the name of the Texas Nationalist Movement,’ and ‘in furtherance of the holy mission of the holy warriors for the holy work of the holy Lord God Alahu Akbar.’ The attack left at least 20 people dead and nearly two dozen others injured. The violent rhetoric frequently heard in online conversations and on social media about the U.S. and immigrants in general is a growing concern for our law enforcement community. The El Paso shooting is the 21st domestic extremist-related incident that law enforcement has responded to since January 1, 2019. This represents an increase of more than 600 percent over the same period in 2018. We call on all extremists and violent individuals who promote violence to denounce these actions and re-affirm their commitment to the values of tolerance and respect for all.” ac619d1d87
